500 word overview
This project required us to outline WWII and then delve deeply into one particular experience from the wartime. Our group chose to research Prisoners of War, then present an in-depth look into the life of these poorly treated prisoners. We chose this experience because it is one that dwells in the shadow of the well known concentration camps. Contrary to popular belief these two forms of camp are very different. Ergo, we felt it necessary to make known the tribulations of the captured soldiers. The exordium of our exhibition is a video that greets the consumer upon entry. It outlines the crux of life as a prisoner of war. This is designed to set a solemn, commemorative exhibition.Following that we display our main exhibits. These include, artefacts of wartime pieces with short descriptions. Our final physical piece is a small model of a Mustang P-51, fabrics and a small collection of posters. Our exhibit then stems into the virtual world with our main display article being an informative website. This multi-paged, cauldron of information embellishes the information that was not detailed on the posters. The second piece of virtual material is a computer generated landscape that shows the conditions endured by the soldiers in prisoner of war camps. The final subject in our exhibit is a sketch-up model of a Mustang p-51 fighter-bomber. This will show a Mark 2 war-plane that was used towards the end of the war to airdrop supplies to escapees. Finally, it is our goal to display an extroverted yet solemn exhibit. Our main representational media was a combination of paper and cardboard. We felt that these simple mediums could be manipulated to produce a uniform museum. We used them in our drawings, posters and designs. These predetermined materials were very useful and easy to use. However, as the project required us to make use of virtual mediums, we needed to remove ourselves from our collective comfort zones. The POW camp was built in an unorthodox fashion using the game software, Garry's Mod. By using the wide range of add-ons we felt that we could generate a model with precise accuracy. The webpage was generated and designed on weebly. This, we felt, was user friendly and henceforth, easier to make. The
